NEWS

Wharf committee has initial meeting (from the Star-Democrat) - "The
seven-member Centreville wharf committee met for the first time Monday at
town hall. The committee was appointed by Town Manager Bob McGrory to offer
recommendations for the future use of the two-acre Wharf Property recently
purchased by the town council. It is chaired by Park Advisory Board Member
Luke Phipps. The other members are Centreville residents Robert Babbitt,
Mark Freestate, Richard Smith, Robert Elliot, Kara Snyder and Centreville
Planning Commission Chairwoman Elizabeth Draper Brice. It will meet on the
second and fourth Monday of every month. The committee members decided July
23 to have each member study what other towns have done with similar pieces
of property and bring his or her conclusions to the next meeting Aug. 13.
They also voted unanimously to have the property cleaned up and the grass
cut immediately. In addition, they agreed, though without a vote, to have an
e-mail address set up through the town's Web site to hear feedback from
local citizens. The e-mail address has not yet been set. Phipps said a good
number of residents from in and around Centreville showed up for the
meeting. 'It just looks like the group's going to work together to come up
with a well-documented plan,' Phipps said."
