SHA plans lower speed on 213 in, near Centreville
February 7, 2008
CENTREVILLE The Maryland State Highway Administration plans to adjust the
speed limits on state Route 213 approaching Centreville, and also reduce the
speed limit on a section of South Liberty Street.
SHA has tentatively approved the changes, but wants to work with town
officials before putting the new signs up, said SHA spokesman Chuck
Gischlar.
The speed limit on South Liberty Street would be lowered from 30 mph to 25
mph. That would make the speed limit the same for Liberty Street (Route 213
south) and Commerce Street (Route 213 north), the two main one-way streets
running north and south through town.
Gischlar said the SHA plans a "gradual slow down" for traffic approaching
town from the south on Route 213 (Centreville Road) and approaching town
from the north on Route 213 (Church Hill Road). The speed limits would go
from 55 to 50 to 35 to 25 mph.
"The town appreciates (SHA District Engineer) Richard Lindsay and his staff
working with us," said Centreville Town Councilwoman Mary Roby.
